Are Apostles for Today?

Even asking that question will polarize the readers. I will be hard pressed to find someone who has been in the faith for anytime at all that is not strongly opinionated one way or the other.

I think it is safe to say that if we are defining an apostle as one who in the natural saw with their eyes and can testify of the resurrection of Jesus Christ its NO.

If a vision or supernatural encounter could be included, such as happened to Saul with blinding light its Yes.

Apostolos: 80 uses in the New Testament King James translates as apostle or messenger . Strongs # 652 defined as a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders That is a very vague definition that’s sounds like what we call a missionary today. Of course missionary is not part of the five fold. NOW I will step on all our toes. No translation uses the term missionary except “the message” and “God’s Word” and if you check on the verses and take them over to greek lexicon you will find no word similar to missionary.

If Missionaries are not mentioned in the Bible then I suggest since every Christian denomination or inter-denomination has them. Our terms must be off. Are missionaries pastors? Yes. Are they evangelists? Yes. Are they teachers? Yes. Do they give up every thing for the gospel? Yes. Do they Birth or multiply churches? Yes. Do they work with their own hands? Yes

I then would say they are messengers sent forth with orders that came from heaven. IF I must use a title found in scripture I’ll use Apostolos. If its ok I’ll just continue to call them missionaries.

So why does everyone have Bishop or Apostle on their business card? God knows. Here is the real question and the one burning in my heart and I will never, never apologize for it. It is this, where are the fathers. In Paul’s own words     1 Cor 4:15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

When I was young in the faith I cried out for God to give me a mentor. God answered me a little differently than I expected. He made one out of me through 40 years in the wilderness condensed into 20 years.

I am borrowing this definition from someone I just don’t know who. A spiritual Father is someone who wants his spiritual child to go further than they themselves will ever go. Putting faith to those words by sowing into their lives carrying them before the thrown of grace until one day the child is walking out their calling in humility, grace and power and the father has no jealousy and bless’s them to move out on their own. I have been put to the test with my natural children and was noticed by some and have been asked to mentor their kids.

I have had great opportunity and with humility I say there is no greater calling. I love to remain hidden and to see others go places I used to dream of. I say YES Go be all that God has called you to be and nothing less.

The Bottom line we don’t need more men and women with Bishop and Apostle on their business cards but what we need are spiritual MOTHERS AND FATHERS.  Malachi 4:5-6  5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
