Revival in the shadowland

At 46 years old I just had my vision tested at 20/20 using a wall chart but reading that something up close is a whole different matter. I preach a lot in Africa with very little light and I just can’t see the words. I asked the Lord to heal me but until that happens I purchased a extra large print Bible that has become my close friend. It happens to be The Holman Christian Standard Bible. I am using that version below to help drive home the point. Sometimes though under normal circumstances we may have spiritual 20/20 vision  adding darkness to the mix we need help with magnification. In the case at hand illumination from the Lord.

Revival Fire has broken out all over the world and historically that means wild fire is blazing as well.

I want to address something we may not be thinking about, let me put it in the form of a few questions.

In revival does the devil stop attacking?

In revival does the devil stop killing?

In revival does the devil stop stealing?

In revival does the devil stop destroying?

I believe He is restrained but not stopped.

If that is not understood:

We may loose our discernment or think it is not necessary.

Put blame at the wrong place when tragedy strikes.

Find ourselves drawing back from the Lord Himself questioning His goodness or sincerity.

After Zachariah got His tongue back the Holy Spirit prophesied through Him about the call of His Son John the for-runner. His Ministry would be forever linked with the Lord breaking in like light into darkness but even more than that. The Lord began breaking in upon the very shadow of death.

Luke 1:76-80 76 And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 to give His people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, 78 because of our God’s merciful compassion by which the Dawn from on high will visit us, 79 to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 The child grew up and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

And John did prepare the way, and the Lord did come and break in with His own Son “the Light of the world” and the darkness hated the light.

Matthew 4:12-17 12 But after He heard that John had been arrested, He withdrew into Galilee. 13 He left Nazareth behind and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 15 O land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, along the sea road, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles! 16 The people who live in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the shadowland of death, light has dawned. 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!”

At the point John was walking through the shadowland of death about to be beheaded Jesus the Light of the world increased His light by shifting His message to Repentance More light was the antidote for more darkness.

Question , Are we following the example?

At the point of encountering the shadow of death we must cry out for the power of Christ to break in NOT SHRINK BACK.

 Acts 2:14-20 14 But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: “Jewish men and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you and pay attention to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it’s only nine in the morning. 16 On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17 And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. 18 I will even pour out My Spirit on My male and female slaves in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will display wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and a cloud of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and remarkable day of the Lord comes;

We love to quote Joel’s prophecy like Peter did, we love it when we have dreams and visions we love it when we get to be used in the gift of prophecy. BUT, when the sun is turned to darkness or the moon to blood?

Let us not be offended but respond with,

Why this blog now? Because many I love have been faced with death of friends and family this week. These are not cold Christians but red hot fiery in Love with Jesus Christians. As I am faced with my own questions related to grief and pain this blog is my response from my heart. Revival defined as Jesus breaking into our here and now is worth it and nothing the devil can throw our way will hinder it. Just because the devil is still active is no reason to pull back, Let us move forward in Love Together.

I’m stepping on my soap box. I miss Leonard Ravenhill He could speak / write and true conviction would fall on me. I would deal with another layer of the onion called pride and unbelief I keep in close proximity. I remember when Mike Bickle invited him to speak here in Kansas city around 1990. His book Why Revival Tarries is a classic beyond the grip of time, my father had introduced me to that book earlier. He was gone and a generation needed him.

Mike Bickle brought another man to Kansas city called Art Katz. Art would rock every ones world, they would scramble to see if what he was saying was really scriptural. We actually became like the bereans while He was in town. I would go to the International House of Prayer coffee shop just to listen to the 20 year olds debate Art’s words. He challenged me every time I heard him, its the closest thing to Ravenhill I know of, now He is gone. I miss him and I wait for another like Ravenhill or Katz to take their spot. One with both a history and a current walk with the Lord who refuses to compromise to the latest book written or latest word on Elijah List. They put it out there and they did not shrink back and they DID NOT GO WITH THE FLOW. Many of the prophetic voices in America started out that way but now you here one, you’ve heard them all. Hey YOU GUYS ITS NOT TO LATE TURN BACK AND JUST MAYBE THE CHURCH WILL FOLLOW.

Update : several months ago I had the extreme pleasure of visiting Ben Israel the home of Art Katz. I had gone on a small mission outreach led my friend Joel Snyder of KC. We stayed with Art and Mary Beebe. We were doing some outreaches at White Earth Rez. We were the ones ministered to. Wow hospitality and stories about their years with Art Katz.

Then listening to Inger tell stories about the west bank and Art stories only She would know. I was so humbled so blessed I just shook my head. And maybe above all was Mama Rose. To hear Her story was one thing but have Her pray for us, No wonder Art Katz had brought Her there. Ben Israel has a history as does Art and everyone has their view of it BUT for me Thank God for Art , His Wife His Kids His vision.

You want to be stired and challenged here is where you can check out two web pages with Art’s work. http://www.benisrael.org/                               http://artkatzministries.org/

My wife and I and our friends Dale and Jeanie Ritter have now been back up to Ben Israel several times. We love it, its like stepping back in time walking in rich spiritual history. It is good to remember what God has done through people despite their imperfections. It should give us hope that we too are building a history, and may those who come after, find us to have been faithful. We love all you guys who shared the journey with Art and Inger despite it all. The Beebes and the Brocks and friends carry the torch. Let another generation arise with like passion.

Another update: Through the years my wife and I and several friends made the yearly trek back up to Ben Israel. Art Beebe has also now gone on to be with Jesus. I was so blessed to have known him and hear the heart of spending years living as a giant of the faith among other’s. Lord remember these men and continue to answer their prayers.
