Here I go again stepping up on my soap box ever so slowly. I am sure  to get polarized comments to come, so let us all take a deep breath and examine some scripture that may help us all avoid some pitfalls.

soapbox

My motive here is nestled in my bewilderment of the changes in the church. I have been a christian for 32 years as of yesterday. But my history goes back just a tad further being born in 1961. I remember the BLUE LAW, no business on Sunday it was “Fellowship day”, no high school sports on Wednesday night that was “prayer meeting night”. Let me go on, school class room started with pledge allegiance to the flag followed by a volunteer student praying for a good day. Now you might say “for real” YES maybe you think that was terrible, maybe you think it was good, but we will all can agree it has changed.

I could focus on the fact that since 1973 there have been 57,191,366 abortions in the US as of today. But I would rather focus on the sin of the church one in particular. James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. If you dare to check the context you will find it is on boasting. Wow that would be way down the list of sins in the church. Why pick that one? It is starting to look like a horse race of sins in the church, the usual like sexual sin, is now common place and passed up by Being Proud Of It. The old front runner of gossip and backbiting was long passed by the new comer I Don’t Care Anymore. Yes I am being a bit silly making my point. It dawned on me this year while in Uganda when I watched a teen age ballet student who was on our little team gave an alter call in a PUBLIC school and nearly 1000 kids excepted Christ. 1000 you say? Yes and can you believe they can pray out loud and public in school something we have not done in the US for 40 years. Do I agree with everything they do NO they can be way to harsh on what the bible calls sin. We do not know how to even define sin anymore.

This brings me to my point defining things. How does the Church DEFINE the spiritual climate in America. It has become very divided mostly depending on End Time views, or the lack of, or the replacement of things to do with THE END. It would be great if Jesus would come back and release His long awaited justice and rule as KING. However it might be a while. So how we respond to the spiritual climate is important.

Let me say right now I am personally slowing down and seeking the Lord. Just Him, not what do you want me to do, or not do, just HIM. I am doing less and praying more when I say praying I don’t mean talking. I am doing that less. Listening praying, looks something like this. Reading scripture then being quiet. Yes I do have my list, but it is loosing its order of importance, and being in the Lords presence is increasing my desire to know Jesus more. Doing christian work out of that place seems better some how. Did I mention I am in a real place of weakness and brokenness and I can not even put my finger on why. It is actually refreshing to admit. So there!

With that said the title that brought you to this blog post is “Decree a thing! Who said that?” If we define Decree as telling the world what God has said, or even declaring to the heaven’s, then well done. However there are some, well meaning Christians who may have stepped over into something that will cause confusion in the end. If you do a study on google about Christians decreeing a thing you see their is a foundation to the theology. There are many scriptures having to do with decreeing, again if we are talking about prayer or singing the WORD, Scripture, the bible, What God has said, then fine.

What if its your own words, many websites speak of the fact that God created us in His image so we can do what he does create by OUR WORD. I would prefer to leave that to God. The foundation for this theological view comes from Job 22:28  Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

Wow that is cool huh, God said to do it, NO actually He did not, that is actually Eliphaz the Tenanite one of Job’s friends. You might say wait a cotton picken minute, its in the bible so God said it. Hold on my friends the serpent is recorded in Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: God did not say that, the devil did but it is in God’s word. That my friends is why we have 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Yes we actually need to study.

If you read Job 2:11 and think God wants you out doing this as apposed to how I mentioned decreeing scripture earlier than you need to read the whole book of Job. When you get to chapter 42 you find God has a few things to say to our old friend Eliphaz. Here it is 7And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 8Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. 9So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

I think there is warning here, be careful quoting something that Eliphaz says as if God said it. The problem started a few years back when some of the Big name preachers starting doing this and selling books and Cd’s and the whole charismatic church followed with out being like the Bereans in Acts 17:11. They took every thing the apostles said through the grid of scripture. Sadly we could see some real changes in a good way right now in prayer for our country, but so much of the church does not see the real spiritual condition because they are to busy being Eliphaz.

Just sayin

Whirlwinds and Tornadoes, could there be any prophetic significance?

God has not only historically used the whirlwind סופה or Tornado’s but according to Nahum 1:3 He has His way in the whirlwind. Take a look at a few verses below.

2 Kings 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Job 38:1-3 1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Jer 23:19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

Jer 25:31-32 31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. 32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

Nahum 1:3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

We know that it rains on the just and on the unjust so I don’t think the Lord sends Tornado’s after people. However my take is when great wickedness takes place like in the case of America’s killing 50,000,000 babies the earth cry’s out. Then spiritual laws of God that govern the natural are released. As we move closer to the last of the last days I would expect this will increase. The increase is what is catching my eye.

I went to google news and as of 05/29/08 here were a few of the head lines with links that came up.

At the end of my commentary on this morning shaking’s you will find a copy of a news story by Matt Sepic. While reading his story He mentioned Mount Carmel ILL. as being near the quakes epicenter. He also mentioned Kingshighway bridge being temporarily closed due to the quake.

Mount Carmel and KINGSHIGHWAY “Kings High way” are both found in the Bible. Mount Carmel is found in 1 kings 18 and is known as the place where Elijah took on the 450 prophets of Baal and God showed up in power. Kings High Way is found in the Book of Numbers.

Numbers 20:17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

Numbers 21:22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.

The King’s Highway was an ancient trade route that began in Egypt, and stretched across the Sinai Peninsula to Aqaba and then northward to Damascus and the Euphrates River. One of the earliest references to the King’s Highway is where the Israelites requested a safe passage through Edom.

Both Mount Carmel and the King’s highway speak of not turning. One from the path set before them and the other to other god’s.

Call me crazy call me radical, this is just how my mind works. I tend to think black and white, right and wrong and sometimes I get carried away and see signs where there not. If that is what I am doing I am sorry. I know God is good and He does not DO evil. He does however use natural things to get our attention. Jesus used natural things to explain spiritual truths all the time and we call them parables. Endulge me if you can as I ramble on.

Back to Mount Carmel

  elijah on mount carmel

1 kings 18:21  And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

The contest between Baal and the Lord God began and ended with fire.

1 kings 18:36-40 36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. 37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. 40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

As soon as Elijaha heard that jezebel was looking to kill him for killing Her prophets He ran and hid and wanted to die BUT the Lord showed up in chapter 19 and had a few things to say. He got the attention of Elijah and part of the process included an earthquake.

1 Kings 19:11-13 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Mount Carmel seems to be known as the place where God personally partnered with man to remove compromise and idolatry. We are in such a place in America. I know that earthquakes are seen in the bible as a general sign of the end of the age.

Mark 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

This quake may be a little more. I was wondering what happened in America’s history on the 18th so I dug a little and found 5 things [good and bad]that caught my eye.

  1.      April 18, 1880 Deadliest tornado outbreak to strike Missouri:
8 tornadoes killed 152 people in portions of southwestern and central Missouri Deadliest single tornado to strike southwestern Missouri:
    Marshfield, Mo. (Webster county)
     F-4 tornado
    99 dead; 200 injured
(92 people were killed in Marshfield, 7 died in Springfield by the same tornado)

  2. April 18, 1906 The birth of the modern Pentecostal movement is generally traced to an April 18, 1906, story in the Los Angeles Daily News whose front-page headline spoke of a “Weird Babel of Tongues” from a “New Sect of Fanatics” at a former livery stable at 312 Azusa St. in downtown Los Angeles. In fact, the Azusa Street revival had been building for some weeks before it broke into the public consciousness and spread across the nation’s religious landscape. Experts also place it in the context of the periodic revivals, or Great Awakenings, that historians have identified throughout in American history. In that sense, Pentecostalism grew out of the nationwide spiritual ferment at the end of the 19th century. The Azusa Street revival lasted for three years, until 1909

The April 18, 1906, issue of the Los Angeles Times carried the above story on the Azusa Street revival.

3.      April 18, 1906 San Francisco was wrecked by a Great Earthquake at 5:13 a.m., and then destroyed by the seventh Great Fire that burned for four days. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of trapped persons died when South-of-Market tenements collapsed as the ground liquefied beneath them. Most of those buildings immediately caught fire, and trapped victims could not be rescued. Reevaluation of the 1906 data, during the 1980s, placed the total earthquake death toll at more than 3,000 from all causes. Damage was estimated at $500,000,000 in 1906 dollars.

4. April 18 1988 U.S. launches Operation Praying Mantis against Iranian naval forces in retaliation for the April 14 mining of the USS Samuel B. Roberts in the Persian Gulf during Operation Earnest Will. The one-day action is the world’s largest naval battle since World War II.

5. April 18 2007 The Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Bush in 2003, was upheld by the Supreme Court on April 18, 2007 by a 5-4 vote in the consolidated cases of Gonzales v. Carhart and Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood. The court indicated that its ruling about specific abortion procedures, known as D&E, did not overturn previous rulings, including Roe v. Wade.

Well some interesting things happened on April 18 th. So what was scheduled to happen today April 18 th 2008? Well the one the whole world watches is this.

April 18 (Bloomberg) — Pope Benedict XVI, who angered Jewish groups this year when he revised a Good Friday prayer to include a call for Jews to recognize Jesus, will make the first trip by a pontiff to a U.S. synagogue today in New York. Benedict, who addressed the United Nations this morning, is scheduled to make a 20-minute visit to the Park East Synagogueon Manhattan’s Upper East Side at 5 p.m. The synagogue is led by Rabbi Arthur Schneier, a native of Austria who lived under Nazi occupation in Budapest during World War II. The visit comes the day before the Jewish holiday of Passover.

Passover tomorrow, how could that be Easter was a month ago and that is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus which happened just a few days AFTER passover. So what happened well its called compromise with paganism. Well there are many things in the church that were picked up in the dark ages. Many have been tossed aside during the reformation but many have not.

Jesus is our passover lamb we have forgotten that. God deals with nations we have forgotten that. One day soon we will cry out as a Nation to God not knowing why He has left us. Then we will remember It is not God who left, but U.S. As the shaking continues let us humble ourselves and pray and turn from our wicked ways, AND THEN…….

The blood of 50 million babies crying out from the ground, God is longsuffering, but I think He is soon to speak and it will be louder than 5.2. There is nothing louder than silence. Choose the still small voice!!!

Moderate quake centered in southeastern Illinois shakes Midwest

http://publicbroadcasting.net/kwmu/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=1262586§ionID=1

ST. LOUIS (2008-04-18) Midwesterners were awakened early Friday morning by a moderate earthquake centered in southeastern Illinois.

There were no injuries, and only minor damage was reported. It happened at 4:37 a.m. The tremor measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale.

The U.S. Geological Survey said two small aftershocks during the next three hours measured 2.6 and 2.5. An aftershock at 10:14 a.m. measured 4.2.

The quake’s epicenter was near Mount Carmel, Ill., not far from Evansville, Indiana.

Mount Carmel resident Mary Lou Kieffer said the quake was short, but it was enough to wake her up.

“Everything was shaking,” Kieffer said. “We were in bed, and the whole bed was shaking. We got up and started looking around to see what was falling on the floor.”

Seismic activity is not unheard of in the Midwest.

The New Madrid fault along the Mississippi River has produced several notable earthquakes over the past two centuries.

However this tremor happened in the Illinois Basin-Ozark Dome region, another seismic zone to the north.

In St. Louis, crews closed the Kingshighwaybridge near Vandeventer Ave. because some concrete had fallen from it.

However after an inspection, the center lanes were reopened. St. Louis Street Department engineers say the outer lanes will remain closed while other parts of the bridge are inspected.

The other night I sit and listened to tales of abuse beyond description. I didn’t think before I shared a dark chapter of my past it just sort of slipped out. I don’t think I ever talked about it in detail except to my wife. I have stirred around the idea of writing about it for a couple of days now and here it goes.

I must have been about thirteen years old standing in front of the bathroom mirror staring myself down calling myself names like worthless and piece of *&^%. Then my eyes fell on Dad’s razor with no hesitation, out came the blade and I was making tiny cuts just below my eyes until my face was dripping red. I stared at my self as to say there you go, that is what you deserve. I began to cry and I watched the tears mingle with the blood. Soon the bleeding stopped and I felt ashamed but relieved at the same time. Just a dab of Mom’s make-up hid it just fine and this would be repeated for years. I kept it secret and no one ever knew or at least no one ever said any thing. So why would I do such a thing? Funny I never asked myself that question until I heard someone telling how they did the same thing. What was it, I was doing?

I found this definition on this site : http://www.focusas.com/SelfInjury.html

What is self-injury?

It’s called many things — self-inflicted violence, self-injury, self-harm, parasuicide, delicate cutting, self-abuse, self-mutilation (this last particularly seems to annoy people who self-injure).

Broadly speaking, self-injury is the act of attempting to alter a mood state by inflicting physical harm serious enough to cause tissue damage to one’s body.

Why Do Teens Self-Injure?

Teens who have difficulty talking about their feelings may show their emotional tension, physical discomfort, pain and low self-esteem with self-injurious behaviors.  Although they may feel like the “steam” in the “pressure cooker” has been released following the act of hurting themselves, teenagers may also feel hurt, anger, fear and hate.

Most teens who self-injure go to great lengths to hide their wounds and scars.  Many consider their self-harm to be a deeply shameful secret and dread the consequences of discovery.

WHY

It was Not because of my parents, they were great. It was not because of any known traumatic event. The truth began to unwind several years ago. I was the typical Preachers Kid “PK”, rebellious, sneaky, etc etc.

It was self hatred, and it started because I felt dirty. This is my earliest memory. I am about 4 years old and I am in a wading pool with sexual feeling, I do not understand them but feel dirty. I hid it inside not talking to anyone about it. My Mom and Dad were perfect as far as I could tell, and I was not, so for years I was convinced I was adopted. I would go through pictures and books looking for the papers to prove it. At one time I shifted that to my sister Ginger and told Her that She was adopted. I wasn’t trying to be mean its just that misery loves company. When we were young Dad was with us playing all the time, it seemed even if I was adopted they Loved me so that just went away. The feeling of shame did not, with sexual thoughts all the time it seemed I was just bad seed. After I was married I stopped cutting and started hitting myself in the face or sometime the wall I needed to see blood then I would be ok.

Through a very dramatic salvation experience the day our daughter Angela was born I was delivered of all my vices, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and a general wildness. I was 21 years old and I never suffered again from shame, guilt, or condemnation. Now it was pride, that was a new one and that would my issue from then until now. But God just wiped away the junk, gone, history.

Why am I writing about it, not because it is therapeutic but I want to start some dialog. After talking to my parents recently telling them about this experience, they told me about the same time in question they found me walking in the back yard naked. That brought back a memory of an older girl taking me behind an old building and I was confused about what was happening. I don’t remember any abuse though safe to say that could have happened considering the weight I carried for years.

The bottom line, do not assume your children are safe, if something feels wrong ask questions. I was delivered from my pain and if you have pain, guilt and shame from something similar Jesus is the answer. He felt your pain and If you give it to Him, He will cover you with His love. You don’t need years of therapy just a personal encounter with God’s only Son. Isaiah prophesied about it read below. He suffered yet with out sin and that gives Him the right to carry our’s away.

Isaiah 53 NKJ  Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 9 And they made His grave with the wicked– But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

Be set FREE by Jesus name!
