Jerusalem mentioned around 600 times in the OT with a wide verity of subject matter. Here are a few
Psalms 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
Isaiah 31:5 As birds flying , so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.
Isaiah 62:6-7 6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, 7 And give him no rest, till he establish , and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
One thing is for certain. God cares about Jerusalem and wants prayer for its peace. God Himself will get involved if need be. On the other hand old slewfoot “the devil” has his history there as well. It has had its share of war, but the one most talked about as it relates to current events is the 1967 war.
1967: Reunification of Jerusalem VS Israeli occupation
Depending on your religious, ethnic or political views could determine which side of the battle of borders you would land. For instance here is a quote from GW Bush and Clinton before him and Obama after him have gone on record calling post 1967 territory, occupation.
Thu January 10, 2008 JERUSALEM (CNN) — President Bush called on Israeli and Palestinian leaders Thursday to make “painful” concessions to reach a peace agreement, including dismantling “terrorist infrastructure” and ending Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. “There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967,” Bush told reporters in Jerusalem. “The agreement must establish a Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people.”

As for me I would be careful to get involved in changing something that has end time conflict written all over it. I have been to Jerusalem and found it reminiscent of a trip to Branson. I did not enjoy all the commercialism, but had a great time interacting with both sides of the conflict. Real people with a lot of pain and a history of rejection and the object of hatred. I pray for peace for Jerusalem but more than that. I pray eyes would open and revelation be released of the one who was crucified, buried and resurrected and one day returning to rule. Jesus Yeshua, יֵשׁוּעַ
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday 05/20/11 he was prepared to make compromises to peace but he rejected President Barack Obama’s proposal that Israel return to its 1967 borders.

Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
It is scarey how we, as a nation, are getting so far removed from what God intended. And what that leaves us open to repercussions, as we stand for Israel’s enemies. The word says that those who bless Israel would be blessed and those who curse would be cursed.
